www.ascpskincare.com 53 MINKYS Eyelash Extensions Q: What's the story behind the creation of MINKYS? A: MINKYS opened its doors in 2006. Originally, owners Israel and Amelia Meneses named the company Extend Your Lashes, but as the demand for mink lashes increased, they quickly tokened MINKYS as the "doing business as" name. They started the business in the basement of their home; in no time, they had to move to a building, then purchased and expanded to the building next door. We are now ready to expand into a million-dollar warehouse! As the lash market continues to grow, MINKYS continues to maintain its leadership and keep up with new trends. Q: What makes MINKYS unique in the lash extension market? A: We have several liquid products that are formulated and bottled near our corporate offices in Utah—not only to have easy access, but also to know what goes into our product for the safety of our clients. We chose a formulator with amazing knowledge who has worked in and around the beauty industry for many years. Our primer, eye cream, and lash shampoo surpass the others on the market with soothing and active ingredients. Q: How does your training and certification work? A: MINKYS has a rigorous certification process. Our trainers are all licensed in the state they reside in, and they all work in a licensed, sanitary, regulated facility rather than a hotel or conference room. Esties attend a one-day training session, where they'll get a solid foundation on which to begin their lashing career. Then the practice period begins, but that doesn't mean they're done working with their trainer! Because it is impossible to be trained and certified by practicing on just one or two people, MINKYS will not certify trainees in one day. You must see and work with several different eye types and many different lashes prior to expanding your skill set. As you work through your practice period, you will send clear, properly formatted pictures to your educator, and they will mentor you until you have passed five models. This may take weeks, months, or even a year, but we work with you! You will then return for a practical test and written test. FOLLOW THE LEADERS ascp skin deep special advertising section Chez G. George, VP/Director of Trainers & Education, MINKYS Q: What should estheticians know about offering extension services? A: Take it slow! I have trained people now for more than 10 years, and I have seen estheticians assuming they will be amazing at this skill the second they get their hands on the tools. This is a skill that must be practiced, and muscle memory must take over. Take a deep breath, slow down, don't squeeze those tweezers too tight, and just practice until your body remembers what to do. We made a fun video with a beauty influencer and invite estheticians to check it out: https://youtu.be/k9VOfHz413w. Q: What do you think will be the next big lash trend? A: Lashes will go nowhere but up from here. The products continue to get better and better, and we will continue to do our best to stay on top of what is hot and provide it for our loyal customers. As far as a trend, the bottom line is this: lashes are a must, and if you are in this industry, it's time to get on board the lash train. sponsored by This is a skill that must be practiced, and muscle memory must take over.
