www.ascpskincare.com 49 Oncology Spa Solutions Q: Why did you start Oncology Spa Solutions? A: In early 2009, I had a treatment room in my sister-in-law's hair salon and was busy building my business. It was going well; I love skin and loved helping my clients, but something was missing. I took some time to refl ect and remembered that I had made a promise to myself years ago, when I went through cancer, to do something that would esthetically help those going through the cancer journey. So, I reached out to the American Cancer Society and started volunteering for their Look Good Feel Better program. I realized right away that I had found my path and passion. I fell in love with those women who showed so much grace and strength as they went through their cancer treatment. I reached out to a hospital and proposed services and a treatment room right there and they said yes. As I shared with others what I was doing, I realized this was needed everywhere and I needed to train more caring hands. So, in 2013, Oncology Spa Solutions was born. Q: What should estheticians know about your company? A: When I put my website and program together, I shared the information with my husband. I wanted his opinion and help with editing. He has an electrical engineer brain, so when he was done, he said, "It looks good, but you use the word love too many times." It was in that moment that I realized I had it just right, because our company is based on love—love for what we do and love for others. It's a simple but profound diff erence that has set our company apart from the beginning. Q: Why is it important to be properly trained to work with oncology patients? A: When a person is going through cancer treatments, things change, including their skin, hair, nails, hormones, mood, energy, and health, and you need to know how to work with those changes. What doesn't change: they are still a person FOLLOW THE LEADERS ascp skin deep special advertising section Becky Kuehn, Founder and Director of Education, Oncology Spa Solutions who needs human touch and, most importantly, they want to feel normal. Our job is to assist and know when to refer them to their medical team during the process. Q: What's next for Oncology Spa Solutions? A: We have quite a few new things on the horizon. I had many estheticians who wanted to take the course, but couldn't take the time off , so we just launched our online training and have received rave reviews. And, in the fall, we are launching a new course called MBA— Mindfulness-Based Aesthetics, so stay tuned! Q: What does it take to be a good leader? A: Have a focused plan that is built on authenticity of who you are and what you love to do. Then, stay on it, be consistent, never give up, and help others get there too. I love encouraging those I work with to believe in themselves, fi nd their path, and then share it with the world. sponsored by I love encouraging those I work with to believe in themselves, find their path, and then share it with the world.
