Leave Your Baggage at the Spa Door and Watch Your Business Grow Advertisement Shelley Hancock www.shelleyhancock.com 925-392-8114 Skin Care Associated Professionals M E M B E R NEW Shelley's Show & Tell Audio Snippets Here's what I know for sure about stress in the workplace … it's the surest way to stunt the growth of your business/career. Think of stress as a virus that anyone near you can catch. If your client catches that virus, they most certainly won't be coming back for more! Have you ever heard that saying "Leave your baggage at the door—you can pick it up when you leave"? That's exactly what we Estheticians need to do each and every day when we show up at our Spas. Hopefully your day will go so well, you won't be so quick to pick that baggage back up as you leave at the end of the day. Staying happy and positive is the most important thing you can do for yourself and for your business. When you're feeling down or worried, don't tell a client. Don't let it show on your face. Don't get on the phone with a friend and blah, blah, blah about it. Don't even spend time telling yourself how bad it is! Do whatever you have to do to feel better in that moment, to get your mind off of worrying. Here's an example of something I do during the workday when I feel my energy moving into stress mode. I stop and think about or look at something that makes me happy. It could be a picture of your child, the thought of how special your mate makes you feel, the taste of your favorite piece of chocolate, or the image of you romping on the beach in Hawaii … you get the idea, right? I have a silly picture of my dog as the background on my computer, so whenever I start to stress, I simply walk over to my computer for a quick smile. Looking at that picture instantly makes me feel better. Remember that song Don't Worry Be Happy? I'm sure we all thought it was just a fun peppy song, but I believe that the song writer was really on to something. Here's a simple life formula: Happiness attracts happiness. Yet people use so many excuses as to why they can't be happy. They use the excuse of debt, the excuse of health, the excuse of relationship issues, and on and on as to why they can't be happy. Our Spas are supposed to be an environment for the client to escape the stresses of their lives. How fortunate we are to work in such a peaceful environment! To grow and prosper in your esthetic career, take advantage of this and let go of whatever is going on your life, if even only for a few hours while at the Spa. My guess is that happiness begins to feel so good you'll decide to not pick that baggage back up at the end of the work day!
