64 september/october 2016 WHAT IS THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF OWNING A BUSINESS? What's most challenging for me is finding work/life balance. Because I oversee all parts of my business, it is very hard for me to "turn it off" when I am home or on weekends. I jokingly say "my boss is a slave driver" because I am always feeling the pressure to do more. This is a huge pitfall that I think a lot of entrepreneurial women feel—and it is something I am working on. WHAT KEEPS YOU EXCITED ABOUT GOING TO WORK EACH DAY? I adore my clients and love seeing their names on my schedule every day! I also love that, because of amazing technology, I can help clients with their skin concerns via virtual skin consultations as far away as Japan and Australia. Aside from the personal relationships, I never get tired of seeing and hearing about how their skin has changed since their last treatment or check-in, or how their husband has noticed, or how they don't wear as much (or any) makeup anymore because they love their skin! Having been so self-conscious about my skin when I was young, I can definitely relate to the freedom and confidence you feel when you love the skin you're in. This is a huge victory in my book. WHAT SKIN CARE TRENDS ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT? This is hard for me to answer because I don't really follow the trends, per se. I really try to focus on what works and how to improve upon that as opposed to following what's trending now—I'm not even sure I know what is trending now! But what I love and utilize a lot in my practice is light therapy. This has been a game changer in my practice because of the healing, lightening, and rejuvenating properties light therapy provides. I also love eyelash extensions. ASCP & you I AM ASCP Lifelong Love This ASCP member shares why her passion is more than skin deep HOW DID YOU DISCOVER THAT SKIN CARE IS YOUR PASSION? I truly feel like I was born to be an esthetician. I have had problematic skin since I was a child, and I even remember that with my first allowance, I went down to the corner market to buy Noxzema in an attempt to clear my skin. Friends at sleepovers would also ask for me to give them "facials" and teach them how to take care of their skin. After high school, there was no doubt in my mind that esthetics would be my life's work. Even today, after 16 years of practicing, I get excited when I work with a new client or see how an existing client's skin transformation has changed their life. My passion for skin care has never been about vanity ... it is way more than skin deep. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO CREATE YOUR OWN LINE OF PRODUCTS? For years, while I worked for some of the top spas and medi-spas in our industry, I had access to some of the best skin care products on the market. I would always cherry pick from different lines to customize my clients' home care to perfectly suit their needs. Once I branched out on my own, my vision was to create the perfect line of corrective skin care products with which I would be able to personalize regimens to target each client's unique needs. With the abundance of ingredients available to us, my mission was to combine the most effective active ingredients in noncomedogenic formulas that create visible change in the skin. While creating the Emme Diane line has been, by far, one of the hardest jobs I have ever had, I am quite proud of our collection and the results that our clients receive worldwide!
