Top spas such as the Park Hyatt New York and the Aman Spa in London off er treatments that include gel applications to relieve water retention, re-energizing peppermint oil scalp massages, and acupressure for relaxation. Disappearing Act Carboxytherapy, a treatment in which carbon dioxide is injected under the skin, has been used for years to reduce the look of cellulite and stretch marks. Now, esthetic plastic surgeons are using this procedure as a way to make dark under-eye circles disappear. Daniel C. Mills, a physician and president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, warns that the treatment has not been approved by the FDA, and no long-term eff ects have been studied, but anecdotal evidence shows that carbon dioxide injected into the soft tissue underneath the eye helps increase blood fl ow and restore skin to its original color.
