Let's pull back the curtain on the resort spa world and give you a peek into what to expect—and, if you choose to take the leap, how to be successful in that setting. The Good … and the Bad The fi rst things you need to understand are some of the plusses to working in this environment, as well as some of the things many fi nd frustrating. On the plus side, spas tend to pay a higher compensation rate in salary, tips, and retail potential. Guests tend to have more money and spend it more freely. If you are lucky enough to start with a full-time position, you can also expect benefi ts, often including medical and retirement options. For the most part, guests come to you; you don't have to market and advertise yourself to get business in the door.
