What's Your Specialty? ascp and you: your turn I attended an event at International Dermal Institute and heard the phrase, "Oncology esthetics is the wave of the future," and I knew deep in my soul I had to do it. Five months later, I enrolled with Touch for Cancer's training and have steadily built my oncology esthetics practice. My goal is to be a West Coast regional trainer for the same training program, and continue to grow my spa business, focusing on diabetic, celiac, and oncology clients, and those with chronic sensitivity conditions. Liliana Aranda-le Coe My focus is on helping those who suffer from acne. This has been the single most rewarding part of my esthetics career. Watching a young person bloom as their skin gets clear is a beautiful thing! Nondy Llewellyn I work in a chain of medical spas and I'm trained and qualified in advanced skin rejuvenation treatments, but I personally love doing laser hair removal. I am a certified laser technician, as well as an electrologist. I feel really good when I help people with unwanted or excessive hair. My clients are from all ethnicities and have all types of skin, but laser hair removal is especially a blessing for my African-American clients with scarring, bumps, and ingrown hair problems. They are super happy with the results—no tweezing or waxing any more. Maya I focus on oncology esthetics to honor my mother, who I lost to cancer. She was my biggest fan and my best friend, and she loved getting facials from me. I put my 25-year- plus esthetics career on hold to be her full-time caregiver, and she continued asking me for, and receiving, facials up to just a few days before her death. Her final words to me were, "I love you. Thank you for your healing hands and huge heart. Please keep doing what you do." Heather Owens I focus on aging beautifully with customized programs including microcurrent, light therapy, microdermabrasion, and peels. Although I originally focused on brow shaping, I heard way too many of my clients tell me they were going to dermatologists for injections—I wanted to offer them an alternative in a beautiful and relaxing setting. Allison Boen I am an acne specialist and I love what I do! I got into treating acne after I dealt with my own adult-onset acne that just wouldn't budge. It was stubborn and embarrassing. Once I got clear, it was obvious I could help my clients with their acne, too, so I sought out the education and the right product line (Face Reality), and I have been specializing in that for two years. I own a spa and acne clinic now. While I still do facials here and there, my days are mostly full of acne treatments. Nicole Bennett My specialties, through 19 years as a practicing esthetician, have always been antiaging treatments and brow design. I invested in a Collagenizer machine and it has been a profitable add-on service for clients who want to age gracefully without Botox or fillers. My most requested service is the original microdermabrasion with crystals. Angie Bravo Imperato Answer our next question: How do you promote your services online?
