28 ASCP Skin Deep September/October 2014 Fall harvest spa recipes These days, our clients seek beauty with a health twist, not just a product in a pretty jar. They are looking to eat cleaner, and along with this comes the desire to know they're putting the freshest of the fresh on their skin, too. A fresh approach to skin care is in, and my mantra is not all beauty has to come from a jar. Farmers' markets, organic farms, and health food stores are burgeoning in every city, and the freshest local fruit, vegetables, and herbs are waiting for you and your clients. Here's how to make the most of this season's harvest. Seasonal Themes Plan some seasonal events or spa specials to celebrate autumn, and send an evite or postcard to let your clients know what you will be offering. Here are a few ideas for themes. • Fall Harvest: Invite your clients to bring a friend to a spa party that combines food, fun, and a beauty buffet of organic products and mini services. • Sweet as Honey: September is National Honey Month. Honey is a humectant and natural antiseptic, and softens skin in its own sweet way. I like to use locally made clover honey, straight up, but there are many products that use honey and even bee venom. Add honey treats to your reception area to continue the theme. by Noreen Young From The • Vegetarian/Vegan: October 1 is World Vegetarian Day and the beginning of Vegetarian Awareness Month. Celebrate with fruit and veggie trays at the reception desk, and incorporate vegetable-based products and treatments. Fresh Recipes Here are some simple ways to help your clients' skin benefit from the bounty of your harvest. Add these ideas to your existing facial protocol or promote them as a special bonus. SWEET-AS-HONEY FACE MASK 1 soup spoon of honey Wrap the client's cleansed face with a warm, steamed towel. Leave the towel on at least 3 minutes and let the client relax. Remove the towel and apply the honey to the face with a spatula. Leave on at least 10 minutes before removing it with a fresh steamed towel. Apply a light moisturizer to the face and neck, and add eye gel or an eye cream. My clients love this sweet, simple delight.
