When I was a teenager, I heard some wise advice about growing up: you can't call yourself an adult until you stop being the bucket and start being the tap. At the time, admittedly, those words were aimed more at my need for a $10 movie ticket than my need for a life philosophy. But now I realize they're true of everything we do. Giving more than we take is probably the most important goal for anyone seeking to live a fulfi lling, happy, useful life. It's obvious how that affects our relationships with family and friends, and how it shapes a career path for anyone in a caring, service-focused profession like esthetics—constantly striving to do good and avoid harm. Many choose to expand those ideals to include a "green" mind-set within their practice, helping the world while they help their clients. Our cover story (starting on page 12) offers numerous practical ideas toward that goal. Here at Associated Skin Care Professionals, the most satisfying part of the job is helping you increase the positive impact you create daily through your work. I hope you'll fi nd more inspiration in this issue to keep the goodness fl owing.
