Associated Skin Care Professionals Skin editor's note What Flavor is Your Practice? DEEP Vol. #12, Issue #1 January/February 2014 Everyone has different tastes. Crunchy and all-natural. Sugary and special. Fast, basic, and convenient. Or anything in between. P.S. We've added more colors and templates to the ASCP Website Builder so you can show off your style on your free business website. Visit www.ascpskin care.com to get started. 2 Most of us don't want them all at the same time, though. In a recent blog post, marketing guru Seth Godin compared some businesses to a dish called salmagundi. Salmagundi is an old English recipe that includes meat, seafood, vegetables, fruit, leaves, nuts, flowers, and multiple salad dressings—all mixed up into a single mess of clashing flavors. "There are very few people willing to cross the street, spread the word, or pay extra for 'all of the above,'" Godin points out. "Better to pick just one thing you can be proud of." That doesn't mean you should have only one thing on your service menu (though many estheticians are successful doing just that, as specialists in anything from acne facials to brow design). But it does mean you should know your strengths, and make sure your practice has a single overriding image, focus, or theme that makes the most of those strengths. Even if you work for an employer and can't bring your own chosen look or services to the treatment room, your skills and personality can shine through and become the most memorable part of every client's visit. Nobody in the world is better than you are at being you—so be proud of it, and you might just find you're the reason why so many clients come back for a second and third helping.
