You Are Extraordinary
I
t's easy to forget how special we are. Every day
we're inundated with so much information that
we get preoccupied with external stressors and
forget to pay attention to ourselves. I know I'm
guilty of it. When I'm overly worried about everything
and everyone around me, I nd my shoulders rising to
my ears, my breath shortening, and my eyes glazing
over. That's when it's time to take a deep breath and
remember I need to acknowledge myself because I am
an extraordinary person—we all are.
This issue of ASCP Skin Deep is all about celebrating
you and your skills as a skin care professional. First,
we're celebrating one of our members in particular:
Stephanie Andresen-Stevens. Her story of giving back
to her community inspired us to choose her as the 2023
ASCP Esty of the Year. You can read more about her life's
journey on page 60.
We want to support you and honor you no matter
where you are in your career. Already a seasoned pro
and want to feel even better about giving your clients
facial massage? Lydia Sarfati dives into the techniques
on page 68. Feeling overwhelmed? Beatrice Van writes
about how you deserve to build boundaries before you
experience burnout (page 78). Ready to give yourself a
promotion and become a boss? Check out page 45 for a
how-to on making your rst hire.
ASCP believes all our members have a special
spark—that's why your clients come back to you session
after session. You sometimes need to take a step back
and re ect.
