Skin Associated Skin Care Professionals editor's note Stay Connected to Your Profession deep Vol. #11, Issue #5 September/October 2013 ASCP Skin Deep supports, challenges, and educates today's skin care professionals as they help clients lead healthier, more confident lives. Did you go to a trade show this year? How about a continuing education event? These are great ways to stay current and connected to what's going on in skin care. The advantages are tremendous. P.S. Have you checked your member discounts recently? Visit www.ascpskin care.com/ membership/ discounts.php to see how to save. Editorial If you have always put off trade-show attendance as an unnecessary expense, I urge you to reconsider. Self-employed estheticians can recoup much of the cost, since business-related training and travel are often tax deductible. And no matter what your employment situation, your Associated Skin Care Professionals (ASCP) membership provides you with registration discounts and other promotional offers in partnership with many of the leading trade shows. The range of education you will find at the larger shows is truly remarkable. You can choose from dozens of free classes and workshops each day, as well as hands-on demonstrations in the exhibitor hall. Because trade shows attract estheticians from across the country, they are also valuable opportunities to step outside the realm of what you know and get a real feel for the opportunities and challenges going on industry-wide. A major upcoming event this month is the American Spa Conference in San Diego, California, September 13–15. Visit www.oneconcept.com/ascp for discounted registration before September 2, and visit Booth F at the show to meet ASCP and its sister organizations. See page 39 for more upcoming shows. I also urge you to check out the local networking events posted by the National Aesthetic Spa Network (NASN) at www.nasnbiz.com. These free events offer estheticians a chance to meet, learn, and share ideas. ASCP will co-host an event with NASN in the Denver, Colorado, area next year. ASCP knows it's sometimes difficult to attend events in person. Please take advantage of all the resources we have to help you fit education and networking into your busy life: the new Skinpro Education Series of interactive online classes, our extensive library of webinars, our popular online discussion community at www.skincareprofessionals.com, and the information you'll find in the pages of every ASCP Skin Deep magazine.
