Leading the treatment with education is key to keeping fear at bay. ingredients or tools you will be using and why they are beneficial. Explain to the client what the treatment does and how it helps them achieve results. Showing your skills and education in your field will also increase client trust. 5. Create a Comfortable Environment. Whether you work in a medi-spa or a relaxation spa, always create a comfortable environment for your client. Cultivating this type of atmosphere may include soft music selections, dim lighting, aromatherapy, and bonus amenities like water, coffee, and tea. 6. Listen to and Address Client Concerns. Be proactive about addressing your client's concerns by directly asking if they have any questions or concerns. If they express any concerns, remember to lead with education before the treatment begins. 7. Check In. Periodically checking in with your clients is crucial when performing services, but especially if the client is exhibiting any type of nervousness. You might simply ask, "How are you feeling?" or "On a scale of 1–5, how comfortable do you feel right now?" When they stand up from the treatment table, check in again by asking, "How do you feel now?" or "How was the service?" Showing that you care and can empathize with them builds trust. 8. Express the Importance of Aftercare. At the conclusion of the service, go over aftercare instructions with your client. Express the importance of following your instructions and explain how proper aftercare will assist them in yielding the results they desire. Following aftercare instructions will also decrease the risk of any adverse reactions post-treatment (which may have been part of the reason they were nervous). It is also a great idea to email or text your client their aftercare instructions so they can have them handy once they leave their appointment. 9. Follow Up and Be Accessible. This is especially important if this is a client's first time receiving a treatment from you. Follow-up calls are nice, but if you don't have time to call, a quick, personalized text within the next 24–48 hours is great. The follow-up can also be a good time to address any new concerns they may have. Always end the correspondence by expressing your accessibility and letting them know you're available. 10. Relax Yourself. Last, but not least, the best way to calm client anxiety is to present yourself as calm. If you find yourself hopping from one client to the next, take special care to make sure you are not only physically prepared, but also mentally prepared for your next client. Between appointments, make it a point to drink some water, take a deep breath, and clear your mind. Clients should always leave feeling confident and empowered. With these 10 steps, you can settle their nerves from the moment they walk in, no matter what ingredients or tools you're using. Less anxiety means a better experience for everyone involved.
