PACK PROPERLY For the show, you want to be comfortable, but that doesn't mean you can't be stylish. However, no matter how tempting, avoid high heels—except for when you're in a class, you will be on your feet and walking all day. Finally, pack a few outfi ts for after-show fun. LEARN SOMETHING Every trade show includes lots of classes, seminars, and demos, and class schedules are posted online. Most are free, but more advanced classes may charge an additional fee. Before the show, look at all the schedules. You might have confl icting classes you want to attend. Check to see if the classes are repeated later in the schedule so you have the opportunity to attend both. BE READY TO BUY Trade shows are the time to take advantage of big discounts. But before you spend all your pocket change, do some research on the companies you're interested in. Write down specifi c questions you want to ask the company reps when you get face time. Then, determine how much product you can aff ord to bring home from the show. CAREFUL WHAT YOU CARRY No matter what you take into the show, you'll be carrying 10 times as much by the end of the day. Take a small clutch for your personal items. Then, put that clutch in a larger tote or backpack. You might also want to stash a notebook or an iPad, business cards, a water bottle, and maybe a few protein bars. STAY ON TASK It's easy to get carried away, spend money on things you don't want or need, and end up feeling like you didn't accomplish anything. Make sure you go in with a plan. Once you've completed all the tasks you arranged ahead of time, you'll have time to wander and discover new manufacturers and meet new people. ENJOY!
