40 ASCP Skin Deep July/August 2021 It is also a benefit for clients who have naturally pale lips, an uneven lip line, discoloration and scarring, or aren't interested in daily lipstick application. However, lip blushing does have some contraindications, and those with conditions that can prevent proper healing, such as uncontrolled diabetes, autoimmune diseases, and ongoing chemotherapy, should avoid permanent makeup like lip blushing. 7 Additionally, clients with a history of cold sores should proceed with caution and take a course of antivirals before and while healing to prevent an outbreak. Clients on blood thinners and with a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring may also be contraindicated. This list is not all-inclusive and performing a thorough consultation complete with a signed informed consent is necessary even if the client appears to be in good health. Notes 1.
