BE PROFESSIONAL
We've all heard the phrases "Dress for success" and "Fake it
till you make it," right? And although you're not peddling
clothing or practicing esthetics under false pretenses, it's
important to be professional at all times. Start by modeling
your work, using your own face and skin as examples
of your expertise. This is a type of free advertising that
showcases your expertise and is key to your success. Licensed
esthetician, beauty industry consultant, and speaker Lori
Crete also suggests you "show up as a force of bright light for
your clients. This includes communicating and marketing
with compassion, skill confidence, time management,
attention to detail, customer care, and self-care."
Acting unprofessionally can be detrimental to your
success. As Lydia Sarfati, founder and CEO of Repêchage,
explains, "The internet and devices have changed the way
estheticians do business. When I opened my first day spa in
the 1970s, if one client had a great experience, they would
tell approximately seven people about it. Now, through
social media, 700 people will know about it. If they have
a bad experience, 1,400 people will know about it!"
"You must work just as
hard to create success
as you do to create
beauty. This means
you must work on your
business, not just in your
business."—Lori Crete
