o t Extremities Exfoliate and Soften It's easy to add a homemade scrub to your treatments. Clients love it, and will see and feel instant results. Mix equal amounts of honey and cornmeal, adding more honey if you need more slip, and use it for a hand and foot massage. Then, with the mixture still on the skin, wrap the hands and feet in hot, moist towels. After 5–10 minutes, use the moist towels to remove the scrub, and finish by moisturizing with shea butter scented with a few drops of essential oil. Paraffin dips also offer incredible, immediate results. Even the driest hands and feet become supple and soft after these easy treatments. Pour warm, liquid paraffin wax into plastic bags and slip the bags onto your client's hands and feet (after checking that it's a comfortable, safe temperature on yourself). Make sure the hand or foot is completely covered in paraffin. Let it set for about 10 minutes, then remove the paraffin, still in the bag, for easy cleanup. relax and relieve For clients who need stress relief, you can't go wrong with a combination of warmth and compression. Gentle heat applied to the extremities brings welcome relief as it increases circulation and decreases muscle spasms, pain, and tissue stiffness. It also helps product penetrate the skin. When coupled with compression, heat services can produce profound results. Compression spreads tissue, making the spindle cells within the muscles react with contraction to protect the muscle from being overstretched. This fatigues the muscles and forces them to relax. Using hot towels and warm stones (never use hot stones, to avoid the risk of burning the skin), massage the hands and feet for a few minutes while a facial mask is setting or while steam is being used. On the soles of the feet, use firm compression movements to avoid tickling. On the hands, slow, gliding movements will produce waves of relaxation.
