I started in this industry in 1987. Back then, if you had aromatherapy in your steamer you were considered cutting edge. We've come a very long way since then! The first high-tech equipment to come along back then was microdermabrasion. My first machine looked like a big ol' ice cream cart. I had to wheel it in and out of my treatment room. It was clogged more often than not, and it left crystals everywhere! The next generation of machines were smaller and much more user-friendly, but I'm not a big fan of the suction (especially as we get older!). I now prefer using an Ultrasonic Spatula and the DermaDisc for exfoliation in my treatments. I love this combination together. Great exfoliation, no irritation. I call it an Ultrasonic Microdermabrasion treatment. In 2003, I was introduced to LED light therapy. I have a really fun story about my first experience with LED (you can read it on my website). I started out with a machine with two LED hand pieces. Oh, the monotony of it! I did achieve wonderful results though. Two years later I moved on to a full-face panel, and the increased results simply amazed me! I use the Illuminate LED Panel. LED is not considered an add-on my treatments. I include LED in every treatment. Another modality I really like is electroporation. That's a mouthful! The first time I heard that word, I had to ask the person to repeat it. Once it was explained to me, though, I loved the concept. Simply put, electroporation is an electrical current that opens a pathway in the skin for deeper penetration of product. This application of an electrical pulse momentarily disrupts the cell membrane, allowing the entry of product. When the pulse ceases, the membrane returns to its original structure, leaving product that has been penetrated into the interior of the cell in place! The effect of the electrical pulse lasts for only a few seconds, therefore allowing the introduction of product. This dramatically increases skin permeability. In laymen's terms, we are opening a door that allows us to insert products deeper into the skin. That sums up only a few of the modalities I'm fond of. Some of the estheticians who know me have officially named me the "machine queen!" Using tools achieves phenomenal results that keeps our clients coming back for more.
