They will want to know you are doing everything you can to protect your guests, your space, and yourself from the transmission of COVID-19. New health practices will include enhanced client screening (such as temperature checks), only allowing appointments for low-risk clients, and providing a flexible cancellation policy for client illness. All of these practices must be stringent, including disinfecting all areas between each appointment, with particular focus on high- touch areas like door handles, payment areas, and restrooms. Because viruses (and all pathogens) are invisible to the naked eye, taking the utmost care in showing your clients how serious you are about cleanliness is one of the best things you can do to ensure client health and retention. While it may feel like the elephant in the room, or even taboo, talking about it with your clients can help ease their concerns. Your clients have battled the worst of the coronavirus pandemic alongside you, and every message coming from reputable sources expresses the importance of handwashing and good hygiene in fighting the battle against the virus. One specific way to comfort clients is to have hand sanitizer in all contact areas. We know hand sanitizer does not replace the benefits of proper handwashing, but it is a quick and safe alternative if running water and soap are unavailable. GETTING THE SUPPLIES YOU NEED If you recently tried to purchase hand sanitizer, you know it is in high demand and virtually impossible to find in stores. Supplies have been rightfully diverted to hospitals and health-care settings to better equip those on the front lines, and the rest is being quickly scooped up by panic buyers and desperate consumers hoping to ward off the virus. However, this shortage has left many businesses and individuals without the proper resources to stay safe themselves. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to properly wash hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, one must: • Put the product on both hands and rub hands together. • Cover all surfaces until hands feel dry, which should take about 20 seconds.
