Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, and use hand sanitizer when handwashing is not possible. Skin care professionals should wear a mask, face shield, and nitrile gloves during every treatment. Anything you touch with gloved hands during the treatment, including product pumps, jar lids, swab boxes, etc., is now contaminated and must be disinfected. Be proactive by preparing small disposable paper cups with product you plan to use prior to beginning treatment. At the end of treatment, simply discard any used cups. Likewise, prepare a tray with cotton swabs, gauze, lancets, wax applicators, tweezers, or any other item you might need during the treatment. This again eliminates you touching items during the actual treatment and contaminating them. Many salons are discontinuing steam treatments out of concern that the steam might pick up viral particles and spread them. Substitute warm, damp towels for this phase of the treatment. Between clients, every surface, device, or object touched by you or your client must be either sanitized or discarded. Linens must be changed and sanitized for every client. You can minimize this time by removing unnecessary items from the treatment room, including machines or products you are not using and general clutter. A clear, clutter-free treatment room offers less risk and easier sanitation. DURING THE TREATMENT When your client arrives in the lobby, their temperature should be taken with a contactless thermometer, they should wash or sanitize their hands, and they must sign a waiver releasing you and your business from any liability for COVID-19. Even with the very best practices, there is risk. Clients should be politely asked not to talk during any time the therapist is touching them. Remember, they don't have a mask and talking creates spray, and you are literally in their face! To soften the blow of not being able to talk in the treatment room, set aside a few minutes before the treatment to visit while your client is still wearing their mask. WE WILL BE OK! During these circumstances, we have to make the best of what we can do. Make a checklist and take every precaution. Greet your clients and let them know there will be some changes in this "new normal," but you still will give them the best care possible! When your client arrives in the lobby, their temperature should be taken with a contactless thermometer, they should wash or sanitize their hands, and they must sign a waiver releasing you and your business from any liability for COVID-19. expertadvice SKIN SOLUTIONS
