Curiosity drives us forward and helps us be creative. Without it, we would become stagnant. Read as much as you can so you can remain informed and forecast trends. Cultivate other areas of interest, such as cooking, music, literature—whatever intrigues you. Stimulate your mind and your senses. Integrity The most important aspect of excellence is integrity. It is the resolve to be truthful in all you do, whether that means standing up for yourself or others, following through on your promises, or seeing a situation for what it really is, not for what you'd like it to be. Being honest and having integrity create the framework for success. FIND SUCCESS IN THE CAREER YOU LOVE Success isn't something you just stumble on. To continue on the path of success, you must take specific actions. • Find the right spa to help grow your career by determining what type of dedication and support the establishment demonstrates toward continuing education. Always be willing to work as an apprentice to a seasoned industry veteran with at least 10 years of experience if given the opportunity. What you will learn will be invaluable. • Pursue your CIDESCO certification, which qualifies your knowledge. • Purchase products and equipment from companies that provide excellent education. • Practice, practice, and practice your craft. Soon, you will see your career soar to new heights. The more skill and knowledge you have about technique and products, as well as marketing and merchandising, the more valuable an asset you will become to your employer. • When looking for the right job, be aware of your assets and your limitations from the start, and you will establish an honest relationship with your future employer. • Consider the demands of your personal life when searching for a career. This will provide you with a healthy work-life balance. For example, if you have children, you might want to look for a spa that offers flexible, part-time hours. • Once you gain at least five years of experience in a spa setting, you may discover other opportunities, such as working for a manufacturer as an educator or as a consultant helping to open new spas. This is the part of my job that I still love the most. I am blessed with the opportunity to share my know-how and help others become successful service providers. Another path you might take is to open your own salon or spa. Being an esthetician has brought me many years of empowerment and satisfaction. My hope is that every esthetician shares my pride in the services we are trained and licensed to deliver.
