September 2018 marked my 30th year as a skin care center owner. There are a few basic practices that I've always incorporated and I believe these things have been beneficial to my business success. So, let's talk simple business basics. How are you showing up for business each day? Are you running in at the last minute and frazzled when your client arrives? Do you run behind, causing your clients to wait for you? Do you bring your personal problems with you into the treatment room? Are you well-groomed or is your style disheveled and messy? How's your skin look? Do you represent this industry well? In other words … do you walk the walk? There's a saying: "Be impeccable with your word." Can your clients count on your word? Do you follow through with things you've said you will do for them? Do you follow through with answers to questions for your clients or do you drop the ball? Do you complete the things that you've told yourself you will do to create or grow your business? I truly believe that keeping your word is one of the most important aspects of running any successful business. When chatting with my fellow Estheticians or reading posts on the forums, I'm hearing that you are wanting very particular, exact step-by-step things to do to grow your businesses. Yes, I get it, we need to know things to do, but there's another part of the equation. Here's an example: I was consulting an Esthetician recently that wanted to take her business to the next level. She numbered off each thing she was doing to help her business grow. She had her bases covered perfectly. But when I asked her how she was feeling about everything, she said she was frustrated, a little nervous, constantly thinking about what else she should do. Right there was the missing piece for her: she had done everything just right to set herself up, and now she needed to step back, stop thinking so much and trust. So, follow the steps of the "things" you need to do to grow your business, but also pay attention to how you feel. Be a little easy with it. Be playful. People will love that energy and will be drawn to you! How about your body language? Think about how someone looks when they're worried … their body language is closed off, tight, the energy around them is non-approachable. Now think about someone who is confident and trusting, the person that knows that they've got it covered, business is on its way, no worries here. Their body language would look more open, upright, the energy around them would be like, I'm awesome, come get the best facial you've ever experienced. Show the world your confidence by standing tall. Take a moment and check in to see where you may not be showing up fully in your career. There could be just one little thing you can tweak, and it ends up making all the difference in the world to how successful you are with your esthetic business. Challenge yourself and see how things change!
